Sticky Monkey-flower

Bodega Bay

2025

1/640sec at ƒ/7.1, ISO 100

A native wildflower photographed growing along a trail in Bodega Head, its common name is based on its resemblance to a monkey's face as well as the leaves production of a protective resin. The vibrant almost golden orange in direct sunlight rivaled a nearby California poppy. Often seen competing with Pride of Madeira along the roads of Bodega Bay, a prime example of the struggle between native flora and introduced ornamentals.
